Event Overview: For those of you who are new to coaching and participating in what is now the 12th Annual Jimmy V CYO Classic, this event is a high energy, fun and emotional event for the over 4,000 people who attend what has become known as ‘4 special days’……players are introduced before the games; music is played throughout the games; high quality food; raffles and silent auction items up on the stage with the Jimmy V’s famous ‘Don’t Give up…..Don’t Ever Give Up’ speech playing in the entrance throughout the event; Spirit of Jimmy V Awards given to deserving players on each team as well as speeches from people who have been affected by cancer.

Every year we also dedicate the event in support of a local person or family that has been impacted by cancer. This year’s event will again honor all survivors and surviving families as evidence that what we and other organizations are doing to fund cancer research is working.

Please see the below key information for you and your team’s parents:

  • 1) Event Dates
    Thursday 2/19/15 through Sunday 2/22/15
  • 2) Information Packets
Information packets (i.e. event brochures; V Foundation and general information) for you and your team parents will be distributed to all coaches. If you do not have the information package please reach out to Bob at rmoonan@hibbertgroup.com
  • 3) Schedule
St. John’s CYO Coaches: As head coaches you will have the ability to invite any team that you would like to play against your team.  I will need the name of the team and contact information for the coach of that team by 1/5/15.  If you need additional time then just let me know. Otherwise we will work with you by selecting from a pool of teams that are at your team’s level and have expressed an interest in playing and or have played in past years.Non-St. John’s CYO Coaches: The St. John’s coach who invited you will provide you details on when the game is; sponsorship opportunities and information on what happens on game day and how you and your team can maximize your Jimmy V experience.

A preliminary schedule will be posted to the website for your review @ February 1, 2015. It will be your responsibility to check the website to confirm the date and time of your game. There is always a possibility that your game time may be changed to accommodate the overall needs of the event. We do appreciate your flexibility.

  • 4) Spirit of Jimmy V Awards
One of the many traditions of this Jimmy V event is for each coach to be able to select a player who best exhibits the qualities and the spirit of Jimmy V. There are no set criteria for the award-it does not necessarily have to go to your best player but often times goes to a player that is the best teammate and doesn’t ever give up. The award is presented after your team has been introduced prior to the game- see below #5 Game Day for additional information.
  • 5) Game Day
Please arrive at least a half-hour prior to your game time with your team. At the front door please ask for the event coordinator who will review with you the below:

    • Your team will be introduced before the game; you can introduce them or if you prefer our DJ can introduce them. In this instance he will need a list of the players names that you would like to have introduced.
    • After your team has been introduced, you will have the option to award A Spirit of Jimmy V medal to one deserving player on your team. The DJ will have the medal for you to present.
    • We will do the best we can to have at least four 10 minute quarters for your game.
    • If your team has taken out a T-shirt sponsorship your T-shirts can be picked up at the apparel station in the gym.
  • 6) Sponsorship/Donation Opportunities
*There is no required fee for your team or the team that you invite to pay any tournament or sponsorship fees-this is a donation only event. Having said that we do encourage and most teams do get involved minimally with either a Game or T-shirt Sponsorship. Please contact Bob @ rmoonan@hibbertgroup.comThis year we’re also introducing an “I Don’t Ever Give Up For _______” program that is designed to allow each player to play for someone that they know that has been impacted by cancer and at the same time raising donation dollars and giving back to the event.
